The Veisto Group started its operations in 1964 when the Rautio brothers developed the first balk hewing machine for their own use. With further product development it was turned into a canter ideal for sawing of small logs. Although the machine was originally developed for their own use, word of this revolutionary invention spread amongst the sawmillers. The groundwork was laid to manufacture the saw machine on a large scale.
1990's

Unforeseen HewSaw created a lot of interest and a group of HewSaw supporters grew. HewSaw precise circular saw engineering, excellent curve sawing features, compact size and efficiency all resulted in good quality lumber and chips, not to mention the good income it brought to the HewSaw miller.

The company also had its own sawmill in Kissakoski and Kokkosenlahti, which brought valuable experience to saw machine product development.

The company was going through a transitional period again. The brothers were ready to gradually pass the business to the next generation to run. The focus was on marketing and exports. The new markets extended beyond the Nordics. Subsidiaries were set up at most significant market areas to facilitate the marketing and after sales. The money was invested in factory extensions and the machinery with a goal of mass production.
